The Elms Season of Giving
A Year-Round Commitment
At this time of year, as we focus on all of the things we are thankful for, we would like to thank Westerly Area Rest Meals (WARM) Inc., a local organization dedicated to helping those in our community who are in need.
Every week our Executive Chef Michael Lipowski and his staff create a hearty soup with ingredients from The Elms dining menu that is served in Anita’s Kitchen, where nearly 100 lunches and dinners are prepared and served 365 days a year.
Founded in 1987, WARM worked with seven local churches to offer shelter and meals for homeless individuals every day from November to March.
By 1989 another church and over 300 volunteers were supporting WARM, along with local businesses, civic groups and the Westerly Fire Department. In 1990, 56 Spruce Street was purchased to serve as a permanent base for WARM.
Ten years later the property at 54 Spruce Street was acquired to allow for expansion of services, and a temporary home if needed, that further help adult men and women in southeastern Connecticut and southern Rhode Island struggling through dire circumstances.
A Shared Philosophy
We share the spirit of community service that drives our area and are proud to be a part of a network that includes local businesses, civic groups, and individual volunteers who value the commitment of helping our neighbors live dignified and meaningful lives.
In addition to The Elms weekly meal donation to WARM, our resident’s Feed the Turkey food drive collects food items for the St. Vincent de Paul food pantry.
Warm Thanksgiving Wishes
Our warmest wishes to all of our residents, staff, and their families, as well as our community partners for a joyous Thanksgiving.
